Standard: Ihr neues Buch heißt “Die Durchschnittsfalle” . Wer macht uns denn durchschnittlich?

Standard: Ein Beispiel bitte.

Ich will seit 20 Jahren Talente finden.

Standard: Was ist denn an Ihnen durchschnittlich?

(Lisa Nimmervoll, DER STANDARD; Printausgabe, 21./22.1.2012)

Hey folks!

.

So far I had a really good season. We are 12 games and one big tournament into the season. In school everything is going well and I have very little free time. I was also in Boston this summer for a camp, which also taught me that hockey there is different. It was a good experience even though I hoped to get a higher outcome. Everybody was put on a team, ours won every single game and I only got scored on once in all of the 2 and a half games. I am working really hard and I see myself take steps ahead, which is really good and pushes the moral, my positive attitude and the willingness to work even harder, day in, day out. I always try to be better then the previous day and improve. I played impeccable games in Boston an was really happy with the end results. Game one: 1-0 victory and I played the best game of my entire life, we scored the game winner 11 seconds before the horn went off. Game two: 4-1 loss due to an injury I suffered from where I had to take pain killers before the game I did not play outstanding but still a really good effort and I made some pretty nice saves. Game 3: 3-0 loss against New Jersey Devils. I was really excited to get to play my favorite NHL team and I was extremely nervous before the game because of all the scouts. I called my goalie coach and he calmed me down. I was kind of upset from the first two goals but other than that I played outstanding again. I am also doing really well in the regular season, even though I would like to play more, but that is probably everybody’s wish so I cannot change that, but I can control how hard I work. I also have the desire to go to North America and play there hockey. Since I played in the tournament and I am back my heart is burning, it want the faster game back and the hard work ethic every single player has there. The competition, the emotions, the willingness to do anything, the quicker and harder shots, all that and more. In school everything is running and I like it. It may sound confusing for some, but I honestly enjoy going to school and I try do the best I can and the best I can be, in both, hockey and school. That are the two only things I am worried about right now and the only things that matter, I don’t need any more. I really got inspired by this one school. That is the one I prefer to go the most right now, because it is both, a athletic and an educational challenge.

Hey guys!

.

I did not write for a longer time and wanted to say sorry to all of you. But I will sum up everything that happened for you. So now I am sitting here at home and looking back at the 2nd year of OHS Europe. I want to thank all the people that supported me so far, my family, my friends, my coaches, my teammates and especially the DREAM ACADEMIA, without whom I would not be where I am. It was a great school year with, of course, also it downs. On the day before the last school day we had a team dinner, where awards were given out for MVP, best student and most improved player. I got the MVP and best student award, even though and that is the funny thing, I did not study a whole lot in my room or at home. You may wonder how is that possible? Well, if you pay attention in class and ask questions if you do not understand, then you cannot even study at home, because you do not know what to study. I think it is important to learn that lesson early, because it is a lesson for life, and makes it a whole lot easier.

We also had a little meeting with our goalie coach, which I really respect and I pay a tribute to, because he cares about every single one of us. He talked to me and said he was not really satisfied at the beginning with me because he knew I could work harder and play better even though I thought I did. But he said it happens sometimes, that you think for yourself you are but outstanding persons see it different and he talked a lot about it with Jason and they meant it was more in my head, it troubled me that I did not go to Boston and that I was on the weaker team. But he also told me that I improved and it became better as the season went on. He puts a lot of trust and hope in me and always tries to push me and does not only say how good I am and blabla and that is what I really like about him and I want to thank him for too. The last thing he said was, that I could have improved more and he wants me to focus on that for the next season to give every single day, my best effort and not waste my talent because he knows, if I give everything I have I can make it. He also talks sometimes that he sees himself in me and he does not want me to end like him, a wasted talent and I love it that he kicks my ass every practice just to get me there and that is what I will focus more than anytime before this season, to give everything I have and to push myself to the next level and my goal for next year, is to get the “most improved player” award, because that is the award you can measure how good your season was and than you can be proud of yourself look in the mirror and say you made it to the goal this season, let’s get at the next on. I really learned a lot lot lot lot this season and I am still in the process of learning and it is good that I went trough that season on that team because you either ignore everything the coaches say and be like before or you learn and grow up, become mature and move on to the next level and that was what I did and I think I will learn a lot of new stuff next season again and that is what really makes me better and makes you get to the next level and use the stuff you learned before.

Andy Moog and Me

Life is about hockey, the rest, just details.

.

Hope to see you soon

Raphi

P.S.: The next time I will put some pictures up with the award, but they had to fix them because they were broken when they got them so that is why I do not have them now.

Hey guys!

.

I hope you enjoyed my last article. My easter break just started and I can look back to 3 awesome weeks spending in many different countries, playing a lot of games with great competition and also got to now a lot of different cultures. I was the last time together with a junior nationalteam and played the last time in that team with all my friends I made during all those years. It was straight unbelieveable and I will never forget that experience. We had a lot of fun but not only that I was also proud to play for my country and gave everything I had. I started the first game and played the first period despite making 4 unreal saves the coach had to pull me because we were trailling 3:0 because the players did not have their heads in it as he told me. We lost the game 5:2 to a strong Mannheim Team carrying 9 nationalteam players. Later that day we played a 95 Select Team from Moscow in which I played, showed and proofed to everyone that I play every single game as hard as I can. We tied the game 1:1 and the crowd gave me a standing ovation what speaks for itself. On the 26th our opponent was the Team Netherland which we beat 6:5 and the other goalie got to start in. Unfortunately we had though luck being tied in points with the Team from Russia but only made the 3rd place in our group due to the fact that they had better goals for average. On the last day we played the Team Netherlands again where I played a solid effort winning 6:2. We finished only 5th place because we only did not play well in the first period of the tournament but it was again a grat experience and I took along a lot of things.

The following weekend I went for another gret tournament to Salzburg with the L.A. Stars facing even thougher games. The team´s effort was poor but I played on top of my game again making about 80 saves in the first game, and most of them big saves and losing 5:0 to Pisek. I played outstanding as everyone told and was of course upset with the lose but my individual effort was good. In the next day’s first game we played against EV Zug which carried 2 austrian nationalteam players and lost 8:1. Later that day we played a strong Salzburg team that finished 1st in the Austrian U17 Bundesliga. I was ready for that game facing again about 80 or even more shots. I was batteling for every single puck as hard as I could but could not do enough to prevent the 11:0 lose. I was so tired after that game, I could not even walk properly anymore. I was really angry and upset because I cared about the team. On the last day we played Rosenheim and everybody suddenly started to move their feet but we still lost 4:0. I learned really a lot after that weekend not only on, but also of the ice and that is important. I also made some great improvements in my game.

From 8.04-10.04. I spent the time in Prague with my team again. The teams there were also really good and at the end of the weekend we finally found some positives to build on. We arrived on Friday at midday and did not have any time to get a little bit of rest as we already had a game when we arrived. Everybody was still tired and we faced Banska Bystrica a strong team from Slovakia. I got to start and already knew before the game that it would be disaster. You could see that everybody was still tired because nobody showed any jump or enthusiasm. It later showed on the score board losing 9:2. In the evening we played the hosting team and lost 6:1 in a game nobody really played better then the previous game. I was more ready for this one facing a lot of shots again but came out with a solid effort. The next day we played the future tournament winner Flash Team in which everyone played well. But they just were the better team and won 4:0. On Sunday we played our U15 team having all of the good 96 players and also players from the Prep team. We lost that one 5:4 SO giving up a 3:0 lead earlier. The last game we played a EC Klostersee from Germany and won 4:0. I was back on top of my game and played outstanding. The team also played a lot better and the moral improved for the whole team.

I had really busy weeks not only due to hockey but also in school. I managed to do also well in school after accomplishing one of three 2 in French and the only 2 in German as well as a 1 in English and Biology. I am looking forward to the next tournament the U16 Centrope Cup from the 19th to the 21st of April in St. Pölten playing against great teams from around the world and maybe I see you there.

.

All the best and hope to see you soon

Puuhhh it is a long time ago since I posted the last time something and i wanted to say sorry to all of you.

So now we are almost done with the first half of the school year. The weeks pass by so fast and every Friday I am sitting there and wondering how fast the week went by. I had up to now if I look back an overall good season so far. I played about 15 games and in everyone of them well or very well only in maybe 1 or 2 games not so good. I have improved since the beginning of the year but I can’t really say how much because that can only tell someone from outside. Practices are great because I also get to practice with the Prep Team from our academy a few times and I helped the team a lot also as a leader and being a role model on the ice and off the ice. It is hard to give everyday in every practice and on every drill 100% but as the regular season is coming to an end I really try to focus on that and also my goalie coach told me it is important to give, no matter what you do, always a 100% and that is where the pro distinguishes from the amateur and I really want to work on that. You also have to try hard in school which I do because that can be the deciding factor for making it to a college or university or not. But my grades are pretty good and they have never been a problem so far. I am lucky and happy that I have not been injuried I was only sick for 10 days. I also have positives with the Austrian U16 National Team, when we won the ” 4 Nations Cup” in Budapest where I played a great game against Team France (2:1 W) and got awarded as best player of the game. We have also been to Prague like last year from 27.12-30.12 where we as a team did not play so well but I had a solid effort. I am looking forward to the last few games of this season and some great tournaments.

Hope to see you soon

On Sunday afternoon, the L.A. Stars Varsity team bounced back from an tough league opener, by skating to a 3-3 draw at home against Linz Black Wings, in U-17 Bundesliga action. The Varsity Stars started slowly and looked apprehensive in the first period. The visiting Black Wings caplitalized on a defensive zone breakdown by the Stars seven minutes in to take the early lead. Raphael Ungar was counted upon numerous times in the first ten minutes in the L.A. Stars goal and kept his team in the game early. With the Black Wings down two men in the penalty box, the Stars evened the score at the 11:57 mark of the first period as Mathias Kastner converted on a goal mouth play created by Cedric Irhuesogie. The teams were not even for long, as the Linz club came right back from the next face-off and scored a shorthanded marker to re-gain the lead 2-1.
The second period saw the Stars back on their heels, as they found themselves in some penalty trouble. However, they managed to come out of the period without giving up any goals against, due to strong penalty killing efforts and some outstanding saves from goaltender Ungar, who made 16 saves in the period. After the second, the score still remained 2-1 for the visiting Black Wings.
In the third, the Varsity Stars seemed to find their skating legs, and had a couple of really good scoring chances early in the period to even the score, but we unable to convert. Finally, their increased effort paid off as Luka Znidarsic found a wide open Simon Joselowitch in front of the Linz net, and Joselowitch made no mistake, knotting the game at two. The young Stars club seemed to rally after the goal, and managed to strike again a minute and a half later, as Marvin Alena (from Tomanek, Matzka) scored on a nice wrist shot from the top of the right circle to give the Stars a 3-2 lead.
The team from Linz continued to work hard and had the Stars running around in their own zone for a couple of shifts in a row, before a Black Wings defender snuck in off the left side and fired a high slapshot passed a screened Ungar to even the score 3-3. The Stars then were forced to kill off a penalty in the last two minutes of the game, and managed to fend off the charging Linz attack in the final seconds. Strong penalty killing and more spectacular saves from Raphael Ungar allowed the Varsity Stars to come away with the 3-3 tie.
As mentioned, Raphael Ungar was outstanding in the net for the L.A. Varsity Stars, as he turned away 41 of the 44 shots directed at him by the Linz team and gave his team a chance to win. Varsity Coach Ben Blakeley acknowledged the improvement from the first game, however was quick to point out there is still a lot to work on, “I thought that we looked really nervous in the first half of the game and some of our guys were thinking too much instead of just moving their feet and making the simple play. There are still a lot of areas where we need to get better all over the ice, but it is going to take some time. Once we started working harder midway through the game, I thought we seemed to gain confidence as a group, which is important for us at this early point in the season.”

Now I look back to 1 week Okanagan Hockey Academy into the 2nd year. 1st week in St. Pölten the practice was good and everybody got to know each other well. Overall it was a good 1st week and everybody tried his best on the ice and off the ice because teams where to be decided after the week. For the goalies it was really though especially for me because there were 3 94s. So we practiced and played a couple of games against Mannheimer Adler and it was pretty much of a head-to-head competition between the goalies because everybody was pretty much at the same level. The decision day: I got up in the morning and was pretty nervous because I really wanted to make the A team because they are going to go to a tournament in Boston where they play against 17 and 18 year olds and what would have been an great experience for me and I would have to get to see my guest family and all the friends I made when I was in Boston with the National Team. So morning practice was great I almost didn’t get scored on and in the evening everyone was in the locker room and Ben and Jason called everyone one-by-one into their office and they talked to everyone personally. I was so nervous and then they called me in. I hoped to be playin for the A Team when they called me up because I wanted to go to Boston so bad. So I was sitting in there sweating and didn’t know what to say. Jason said:” Me and Ben thought a lot about it and you are not playing for the A Team and it is actually only for your advantage because you will get a lot of shots in the games and Ben needs someone that’s leading and is a good guy and that can lead in the gym and on the ice and work hard. You also have to carry a lot of weight and Cseh said he counts you to one of the better goalies but we also want to keep the 94s together. You are also practicing with the A Team so you get even more ice time and in the A Team 9 out of 10 games you wouldn’t get any shots at all.” I still was stunished and really didn’t know what to say because of course I hoped to make the A Team but I also thought about that before as well and sweat was running even more all over me and in my brain a thousand things were floating around and I just said ok and even that was hard to get out and so I left. Back at the dorm everyone was like :” What you didn’t make the A Team?, no you are kidding me that’s a joke, No way, You’re the best goalie here,..” So I went to bed with still floating thoughts but the more I thought about it to be in the B Team the more it seemed to me to be better.

See you hopefully soon

Yours raphii
